The third annual Children Shelter Gala Benefit attracted just fewer than 50 participants Saturday Night to enjoy an evening of entertainment including a buffet of hors d'oeuvres, an auction and music to raise money for displaced children.
"Those who came seemed like they had a fun time," said Judy Turnbull, president of the Children's Shelter Board. "I sincerely appreciate everyone who participated in any way."
In addition to a brief update on the Shelter's progress by Turnbull, ShayLee Lawhon encouraged participation in her "Suitcases for Kids" project and Angel Gibson sang the "Star Spangled Banner" and "Give It Away."
A total of $6,070 was raised through the auction, ticket sales and donations.
All auction items were donated, and decorations, food and entertainment were sponsored by First National Bank, Cavanaugh Auto World, Pulaski Bank, Wal-Mart, Flower Basket, Walnut Ridge Country Club, Farm Service and Farm Bureau. Sound Xtreme with deejay Andy Allen provided music.
"I'd like a special thanks to go to Lewis Slaughter as auctioneer and Eggie Tedder as spotter, as well as to the committee members Julie Ponder, Terri Lawrence and Kari Shanks," Turnbull said.
