Hoxie receives
ACE certification

Hoxie was certified as an Arkansas Community of Excellence (ACE) at a ceremony held Friday at Hoxie Service Center. Governor Mike Beebe presented the ACE certificates to Hoxie Mayor Donnie Roberts and Dewey Scott, chairperson of the city's ACE committee.

Polar Freeze plans special
events to mark anniversary

Polar Freeze owners Jack and Velma Allison will mark their 50th anniversary operating the popular local restaurant next week.

A drop-in reception is planned for Monday from 1:30-3:30 p.m. at the Polar Freeze.

Portia Picnic begins tonight

The 103rd annual Portia Picnic begins tonight, with the carnival midway open from 5:30-9:30 p.m.

The carnival will continue each evening through Tuesday, but will not be open on Sunday.

TD Photo Contest underway

The Times Dispatch's 17th "Summertime Photo Contest" is underway. The deadline for entries is July 18.
