MILITARY DRILL CONDUCTED HERE ~ Military personnel conducted training late Monday afternoon in a large grassy field on U.S. Hwy. 67B, between Hays Supermarket and Farm Service, Inc. The helicopter crews repeatedly landed and took off from the field, while some individuals on the ground appeared to have injuries in the exercise. Fire Chief Alan Haskins and the Walnut Ridge Fire Department were on hand to provide backup support while the drill was conducted.

Lawsuits filed in golf course, airport conflict

After 48 years of coexisting peacefully, the Walnut Ridge Golf Club, Inc. (now known as the Walnut Ridge Country Club) and the Walnut Ridge Regional Airport are at odds following the airport commission's move to update and improve the status of the airport.

HPD chief to retire
It was announced at Hoxie's City Council Meeting, last Tuesday, that Kenny Jones will be retiring as Hoxie police chief as of July 1. Jones has served a total of 31 years as a police officer with most of his service in Lawrence County. The new police chief will be Glen Smith.

of cars for police dept.
The Walnut Ridge City Council discussed purchasing new police cars and hired a new attorney at last Tuesday's meeting.

Repair work still underway
Lawrence County Judge Alex Latham said the county has completed approximately 85 percent of the road repairs needed to fix damage to rural roads after weeks of flooding made them impassible.
