Hoxie, Walnut Ridge
featured in Hooten's
The Hoxie Mustang and Walnut Ridge Bobcat football teams are featured in this year's Hooten's Arkansas Football magazine.
3-3A conference coaches selected the Mustangs to finish first in the conference. They are coached by Tom Sears and won 10 games last season, advancing to the quarterfinals of the state playoffs.
The Mustangs' strength, according to Hooten's is experience with 17 seniors and 18 juniors on the roster and returning starters in 15 positions.
The Bobcats are voted by 3-2A conference coaches to finish sixth in the conference. The Cats, coached by Larry Treadway, struggled in 2007 posting two wins, but Hooten's points out that the team will have "five linemen weighing more than 200 pounds and skill players with breakaway speed."
Walnut Ridge's strength, according to the magazine, is that the players' overall size, speed and strength is the best in years.
In addition to extensive high school coverage, the publication offers an in-depth preview of the Arkansas Razorbacks and the Southeastern Conference. Arkansas State and every state college are previewed, as well as all 119 Division I college teams.
Hooten's Arkansas Football has complete fall schedules for all high school and college teams.
The book retails for $16.99 and is on sale now at Wal-Mart, Kroger, Harvest Foods, Hastings, Books-A-Million, Barnes & Noble, Harp's Food Stores, Price Cutters and Big Red Stores.
The book is published annually by Hooten Publishing, Inc., of Little Rock.
