Local police officer arrested

A Walnut Ridge police officer has been terminated from his position after he was arrested by the Jonesboro Police Department in connection with an ongoing investigation.

David Mason, 43, of Hoxie, was arrested on May 28 on charges of distributing, possessing or viewing matter depicting sexually explicit conduct involving a child.

The arrest came after a warrant was served at Masons residence. The computer and media were seized, and, according to reports from the Jonesboro Police Department, Mason said he was the sole person who had downloaded the images, which were still present on the computer at the time it was seized.

At a hearing later that day, Judge Keith Blackman found probable cause to charge Mason. He was released on a $3,500 bond as he had no previous criminal history and is not perceived as a flight risk.
