Memorial Day passes quietlyThe Memorial Day weekend was a relatively quiet one according to Steve Jones, coordinator for the Lawrence County Office of Emergency Management.
"There were a few medical runs but no serious injuries and no serious motor vehicle accidents in the county," Jones said.
According to Sgt. Stan Finley of the Lawrence County Sheriff's Office, the department heavily patrolled the area over the holiday weekend in an effort to minimize traffic incidents.
For the most part the weather cooperated to give Lawrence County good weather for the weekend though stormy weather on Sunday night brought heavy rain, wind and severe lighting.
The 911 Center had a report of a funnel cloud on Highway 67 North. A police officer reported the funnel briefly touched down before disappearing back into the clouds.
