Meyer to play baseball at WBC
Gretchen Hunt
Drew Meyer, a four-year starter for the Sloan-Hendrix baseball team, has committed to continue his baseball career at Williams Baptist College in Walnut Ridge. Meyer served primarily as the Greyhounds' catcher, but SHHS head coach Ricky Grisham, said can play many positions. "He is capable of playing about anywhere," Grisham said. Baseball is a way of life for Meyer, who has played as long he can remember. "He's played ever since T-ball," his mother said. "He has played 15 years consecutively." Meyer has posted a batting average of over .400 the last two years and his senior average is about .420, according to Grisham, including four homeruns. John Katrosh, head baseball coach at Williams Baptist, said Meyer is a welcome addition to the Eagles' roster. "We're just glad to have him aboard," Katrosh said. "He's got a good work ethic and the type of character that will be a very positive part of our program. We hope to help him continue developing as an athlete to play at our level." Meyer is the son of Travis and Ramona Mandera of Ravenden and Russell Meyer of Jasper, Mo. He has a younger brother, Aaron, who is a sixth grader at Sloan-Hendrix.
