Jenkins to extend hockey
career at collegiate level

Taylor Jenkins, who has been playing hockey for 11 years, has committed to play for the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire.
Hockey has been an important part of Taylor Jenkins' life for 11 years, and it will continue to play an important role as she graduates from high school and begins her college career.

After playing for the hockey team at Austin High School in Minnesota for six years, she has now committed to play at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire, a Division III school.

Jenkins began playing hockey in the second grade, skating with the boys, and made the girls high school team as a seventh grader.

She holds the record for Austin girls hockey for the most assists in a career (151) and the most points in a season (86). This year, she closed the season with 52 goals and 34 assists and ranked third in the state for goals and total points.

Her play drew interest from many schools, including some at the Division I level. She was accepted to 11 different colleges and university before selecting UW-Eau Claire. She chose Eau Claire because it offered her the ability to focus on her school work, as well as hockey.

In 2007, as a junior, Jenkins led the Austin Packers to the State Tournament for a sixth place finish. They returned to state this year and finished fourth ~ the Packers' best ever showing at state.

Jenkins receive AP All-State honorable mention player three times and is the only Packer ever to be a Minnesota Girls Hockey Coaches Association All-State Honorable Mention player, an honor she received in 2008.

She received All-Conference (Big Nine Team) four times and has been a six-year letter winner.

In 2007 and 2008 she was selected as KAAL Austin ABC 6 news Female Prep Athlete of the Week, and in 2007 she received KIMT (CBS) Athlete of the Week from Mason City, Iowa. She has received the Prep Athlete of the Week from KAUS Austin Radio four times in the last three years.

She is the daughter of Mark and Jennifer Jenkins of Austin, Minn., and the granddaughter of Donnie and Vicki Jones of Walnut Ridge. She is the great-granddaughter of Billy and Virginia Lovelady of Walnut Ridge and the late Amos and Arvenia Jones, who lived in Walnut Ridge.
