WR McDonald's manager honored
Walnut Ridge is home to one of the nation's top McDonald's restaurant managers.
Miranda Spargo recently received the 2007 Ray Kroc Award, an annual performance-based award that recognizes the top one percent of McDonald's restaurant managers in the country.
Named after McDonald's corporate founder Ray Kroc, the award was established in 1999 to honor hardworking restaurant managers ~ those who make Ray Kroc's vision of excellence come to life in their restaurants and for their customers each day.
A select 137 managers were chosen this year to receive the Ray Kroc Award, an honor that comes with a cash award, a Ray Kroc award trophy and pin and a trip to Chicago for an awards gala held recently.
The Walnut Ridge High School graduate began her career with McDonald's in 1989 as a crew person and has been manager of the Walnut Ridge restaurant since 2005.
"It was a shock at first," Spargo said regarding when she learned she was a Ray Kroc Award winner. "I was ecstatic. I come from a small town, so traveling to Chicago was a big deal. It's good to know that the corporation is really out there looking at all of the restaurants, and it's nice to be appreciated through the company."
Spargo credits her employees as a major reason for her success.
"I think I'm persistent and follow good leaders, but my people are key. You have to have a strong team," she said. "I enjoy working with so many different people, both employees and customers. I enjoy the daily interaction with people."
"Miranda is a very important member of our McDonald's family," McDonald's owner-operator Tim Thomas said. "We value her contributions to our team and are very proud of her accomplishments. She truly raises the bar for our industry. Through the energetic way in which she manages the restaurant to her commitment to customer service, Miranda truly deserves this prestigious recognition."
Spargo and her husband, Matt, live in Walnut Ridge with their two dogs, Peanut and Stretch. She is the daughter of Mike and Debbie Wheelis of Walnut Ridge.
