Hoxie suffers lossesDebbie RicheyStaff Writer Corning defeated Hoxie 16-1 in high school baseball on Friday at Hoxie. Corning broke the game open in the third and fourth innings, as Hoxie committed eight errors. Jake Hitt started the game on the mound and was relieved by Cade Crisler in the third. The run rule was enacted after the fourth inning.
Hoxie hosted East Poinsett County on April 8. Hoxie started the game with three consecutive hits, as Joseph Richardson and Crisler each doubled, followed by a single by Hitt. Hoxie led 2-1, but EPC took advantage of some Mustang miscues and scored two runs in each inning to defeat Hoxie 10-2. Blake Snow took the loss. He kept Hoxie in the game early, before falling behind on some errors. Richardson, Crisler, Hitt and Thomas Kingsland all recorded a hit apiece.
Hoxie traveled to Marmaduke on April 7 to face Trent Smith and the Greyhounds. Hitt tossed a three-hitter for Hoxie, and Smith allowed four hits by Hoxie, as Marmaduke prevailed 3-1. Crisler started the first inning off with a double and scored on a Marmaduke miscue. Hitt held the Greyhounds to a single hit until the bottom of the sixth. After retiring the first batter, Marmaduke reached first on a hit batsman and Kyle Huckabey drove in the tying run with a double to left field. Dexter Jordan connected on a two-run homer to put the Greyhounds ahead. Crisler reached on a walk and Richardson reached on a miscue. After a passed ball, Hoxie had the tying runs on second and third. The Greyhounds' third baseman handled a hard-hit ball from Hitt to end the game. Crisler was 2-for-3, while Kingsland and Richardson each added a hit.
