Lady Cats are county championsDebbie Richey
The finals of the Lawrence County Softball Tournament pitted the Lady Bobcats of Walnut Ridge and the Lady Screamin' Eagles of Hillcrest against each other for the second time in tournament play.
The result was the same with the Lady Cats earning the title with an 11-1 victory.
Staci Spargo earned the win from the mound in five innings of work, giving up three hits and striking out five.
Jessica Osbahr closed with three hits and scored two runs. Simms was 2-for-3 at the plate, with three RBI's, and Josie Wagner and Jordan Rorex earned two RBI's each. Wagner also scored two runs.
Jessica Broadway took the loss for the Lady Eagles, pitching three innings, allowing seven hits, eight runs, walking four and striking out one.
Terra Polston had a hit and scored the solo run. Whitney Jones recorded a hit and had an RBI, and Lauren Pickle and Elaina Pankey closed with a hit each.
Hillcrest and Hoxie had a rematch in game 5 with Hillcrest taking the 10-1 win.
Samantha Blevins earned the win from the mound, allowing three hits, walking two and striking out one.
Kelsey Dobbs took the loss, allowing 14 hits.
Natalie Johnson hit 3-for-4 for Hillcrest, including a triple, and recorded two runs, an RBI and a stolen base. Polston was 3-for-3 at the plate, with three runs, two RBIs and a stolen base.
Broadway was 2-for-3, with a run and two stolen bases, and Jones hit 2-for-3, with a triple and a double, and recorded a run and two RBIs.
Blevins went 2-for-3, with a run and a stolen base. Pickle had a hit and an RBI, and Pankey had a hit and scored a run.
Dobbs, Brooke French and Chelsea Rosson all had a hit for Hoxie. Tanya Noblin scored the Lady Mustangs' run.
Walnut Ridge defeated Hillcrest 7-5 in game 4 of the tournament.
Spargo was the winning pitcher for the Lady Cats.
Lindsey Simms and Rorex recorded two RBIs each, and Vanessa Oliver scored two runs.
Broadway took the loss from the mound, allowing five hits, seven runs, walking two and striking out five.
Broadway led at the plate hitting 2-for-3, with a run and an RBI. Jones and Stevie Howard had a hit and an RBI each, and Miranda Doyle also had a hit, scored a run and had a stolen base.
Pankey had a hit and a stolen base, and Polston recorded a hit and a run.
The Hoxie Lady Mustangs came out on top in game 3 defeating the Lady Greyhounds of Sloan-Hendrix 8-0.
Dobbs recorded the win on the mound for Hoxie. The Lady Mustangs had five hits including two doubles.
The Lady Hounds recorded two hits.
The Lady Bobcats opened play in the tournament by defeating Sloan-Hendrix 15-3 in game 2.
Spargo, who was the winning pitcher, was 2-for-3 at the plate, including a double and a triple, and had three RBIs. Osbahr recorded two hits, three runs and two RBIs, and Rorex scored two runs and had two RBIs.
Kristi Caldwell recorded the loss on the mound for the Lady Greyhounds.
Hillcrest defeated Hoxie 10-3 in the first game of the tournament.
Broadway pitched five innings, allowing two hits and two runs, striking out seven and walking three. Blevins pitched two innings for the Lady Eagles, allowing three hits and one run, recording two strikeouts and walking four.
Dobbs took the loss for Hoxie, pitching six innings, allowing 12 hits and striking out four.
Johnson led Hillcrest offensively, batting 3-for-4, including a triple, scoring a run and recording two RBIs and a stolen base. Broadway went 2-for-4, with two runs, an RBI and two stolen bases.
Jones hit 2-for-4, with a double, and scored two runs. Pickle also went 2-for-4 at the plate, with two runs, two RBIs and a stolen base. Howard had one hit, scored a run and recorded a stolen base. Doyle went 1-for-2, scoring a run, and Blevins had a hit, scored a run and had two RBIs.
Shalicia Wilson hit 2-for-4 for the Lady Mustangs. Dobbs and Jessica Barber recorded a hit each. Erin Strong had a hit and an RBI, and French scored a run.
