Hillcrest girls sweep S-HDebbie RicheyStaff Writer Hillcrest hosted Sloan-Hendrix for a softball doubleheader on March 25. In the first game, Hillcrest scored nine runs in the first inning en route to an 18-1 win over the Lady Greyhounds. The Lady Eagles added two runs in the second, four in the third and three in the fourth. Sloan-Hendrix scored their run in the first inning. Jessica Broadway earned the win, pitching four innings and allowing three hits, a run andone walk and striking our four. Offensively for Hillcrest, Terra Polston went 3-for-3, with two RBIs and scored four runs. Broadway batted 2-for-3, with two RBIs and scored a run. Whitney Jones hit 2-for-3, with two RBIs and scored a run. Lauren Pickle went 2-for-2 and scored two runs. Natalie Johnson went 1-for-2 and scored two runs. Samantha Blevins scored two runs. Elaina Pankey and Kayla McBride each scored a run. Stevie Howard batted 1-for-3, with two RBIs and scored a run. Tamara Evans hit 1-for-2, with an RBI and scored a run, and Jerrica Brown scored a run. Christie Caldwell pitched four innings for the Lady Hounds, allowing 18 runs on 11 hits, with seven walks and three strikeouts. Chelsea Broadway hit 1-for-2 and scored a run, and Caldwell had two hits.
In the evening game, Hillcrest scored two runs in the first inning, one in the second and two in the third to take a 5-0 lead. Sloan-Hendrix scored four runs in the fourth inning to cut Hillcrest's lead to 5-4. The Lady Eagles answered with five runs in the fifth, and closed with three in the sixth to take the second game 13-4. Blevins took the win from the mound allowing four runs on six hits, while walking three and striking out two in seven innings. Pickle hit 3-for-3, with an RBI and scored four runs. Broadway had an RBI and scored a run. Evans had a hit and scored a run. Jones hit 2-for-4, with three RBIs and scored a run. Polston was 2-for-4, with two RBIs and scored three runs. Miranda Doyle scored two runs, and Johnson scored one. Blevins had an RBI. Heidi Powers suffered the loss, allowing 13 runs on 11 hits. She walked seven and struck out three in six innings. At the plate, Powers hit 2-for-2 with three RBIs and scored a run. Amanda Holland went 1-for-1 and scored a run. Kristin Belcher hit 1-for-3 and scored a run. Chasity Collins batted 2-for-3, and Broadway scored a run.
