Bobcats win two, lose one
Staff Writer The Walnut Ridge Bobcats baseball team lost to Stuttgart 8-7 in the Xtra Innings Spring Classic Friday at Valley View. The Bobcats scored four runs in the top of the seventh to take a 6-5 lead. Stuttgart scored a run in the bottom of the seventh to send the game to the eighth inning. Walnut Ridge took a 7-6 lead in the top of the eighth, but Stuttgart scored twice in the bottom of the eighth to take the win. Offensively for Walnut Ridge, Mitchell Thompson went 2-for-4, with a solo home run. Brandon Dawson had two hits and an RBI. Curtis Jackson's seventh-inning single that got past the right fielder earned him three RBIs. Thompson started on the mound and pitched the first seven innings, allowing six runs on nine hits, while striking out eight and walking one. Jackson took the loss after pitching the eighth in relief.
Walnut Ridge defeated Manila 5-4 in the Xtra Innings Classic on Thursday. Dawson pitched seven innings and earned the win. He allowed four runs on six hits, with two strikeouts and a walk. Thompson went 3-for-3 at the plate, with two RBIs.
Walnut Ridge traveled to Judsonia on March 17 and defeated White County Central 11-0. Thompson pitched four shutout innings, allowing only one hit and recording seven strikeouts. Jackson struck out the side in the fifth inning. Thompson batted 2-for-3 and scored two runs. Jared Blackwell hit 2-for-2 and had two RBIs, and Dawson had two hits. |
