Lady Mustangs suffer losses
Staff Writer The Hoxie Lady Mustangs softball team was in action twice on Monday. The Lady Mustangs lost to Highland 5-2. Shalicia Wilson went 2-for-2 at the plate and had an RBI. Brooke French and Kelsey Dobbs scored Hoxie's runs. Dobbs started on the mound for Hoxie and struck out two on five innings. Brookland defeated the Lady Mustangs 10-1, also on Monday. Hoxie's run came in the first inning when Jessica Barber reached on a hit, then scored on a hit by Shayla Coats. Cortney Jones and Devine Wilson also had hits for Hoxie. Dobbs started on the mound and struck out one.
Izard County Consolidated defeated the Lady Mustangs 8-0 in the Rumble-N-Raiderville tournament at Nettleton on Friday. Dobbs pitched and struck out one.
The Lady Mustangs lost to Corning 13-1 on Thursday. Ashley Glenn got Hoxie's first hit in the fifth inning. Devine Wilson followed with a base hit, scoring Glenn, for Hoxie's run. Dobbs pitched for the Lady Mustangs and recorded five strikeouts.
The Lady Mustangs lost to Brookland 10-0 on March 11 at Brookland. Brookland's Ginny Nelms pitched a no-hit shutout with 15 strikeouts. Dobbs took the loss for Hoxie, despite striking out eight batters.
