CERT RECEIVED EQUIPMENT ~ Paige Vanbrook (left) and Wendell Jones look over new equipment received by members of Lawrence County's Community Emergency Response Team (CERT). The equipment includes two-way radios and backpacks filled with items, such as hard hats, goggles, flashlight, ponchos, CERT reflective vests, gloves and marking chalk. The equipment was distributed Monday night at a meeting at the Walnut Ridge Fire Department. Bryan Smith of Black Rock, a CERT instructor, said the equipment was purchased through a federal grant. The CERT program, which is relatively new to the county, consists of organized and trained personnel, such as emergency medical technicians, firemen and police, whose goal is to work together to coordinate emergency assistance in the event of a disaster, such as an earthquake.
