Lady Mustangs finish

The Hoxie Lady Mustangs faced the East Poinsett County Lady Warriors in the third-place game of the 3A Region 3 Basketball Tournament on Monday at Marmaduke. Both teams had clinched berths in the 3A State Tournament with wins in the first round and this game was to determine seeding for the state tournament.
EPC took control of the contest in the first half, leading 20-12 at the end of the first quarter and extending the lead to 29-20 at halftime.
The Lady Mustangs made a charge in the third period, outscoring EPC 16-10 in the period to close to within three points of the Lady Warriors, 39-36, at the end of the period. EPC weathered the Lady Mustangs' rally and regained control of the game in the fourth quarter, recording a 55-45 win.
Megan Black led Hoxie with 17 points, and Jessica Barber had 14. Ashley Glenn closed with 11 points, and Tanya Sisco added three.
Black and Barber received All-Tournament recognition.
Hoxie was defeated by Cave City 54-36 in the semifinal round on Saturday.
Black led the Lady Mustangs with 14 points, and Barber had eight points. Raven Gates, Erica Galbreath, Glenn and Brooke French each had three points, and Sisco had two.
The Lady Mustangs routed Bergman 69-44 in the first round on Feb. 20.
Hoxie took an early 13-7 first-quarter lead and continued to lead 32-24 at halftime.
The Lady Mustangs put the game away in the third quarter, outscoring Bergman 14-5 in the period to take a commanding 46-29 lead into the fourth quarter.
Hoxie had four players in double digits. Barber led the Mustangs with 21 points and 10 rebounds. Black added 16 points and eight boards. Galbreath contributed 12 points on four three-pointers and gathered 11 rebounds, and Glenn added 12 points. Sisco scored eight points. Gates had six points, and French added a free throw.
