Hoxie jr. teams
complete season

Hoxie's junior high basketball teams competed in the 3A-3 District Tournament last week at Harrisburg.

Junior girls

The junior Lady Mustangs advanced to the semifinals before being defeated by Hughes 48-34 on Thursday.

Hughes jumped out front early with an 11-3 first-quarter lead and added to their advantage in the second period for a 29-15 halftime lead.

Hoxie closed to within 35-25 at the end of the third period, but the Blue Devils were able to hold off the Lady Mustangs in the final quarter for the win.

Leading scorers for Hoxie were Amy Galbreath with 16 points, and Neely Ragsdell with 13.

The junior Lady Mustangs finished the season with an 18-4 overall record.

First round

Hoxie advanced to the semifinals with a 38-18 opening-round win over Manila on Feb. 6.

The Lady Mustangs were in command from the outset, racing to a 15-2 first-quarter advantage. Hoxie remained in control, leading 21-11 at halftime, and 27-13 after three quarters.

Ragsdell and Galbreath each scored 12 points to lead Hoxie.

Junior boys

The Hoxie junior high boys saw their season end with a 45-16 first-round loss to East Poinsett County on Feb. 4.
