Grandparents' Corner

Alyssa (front, from left), four, Michael, two, Mariah, five, and (back) Logan, seven, are the children of SGT Jeremy and Melissa Cooney of Quantico, Va.

Having served tours in Afghanistan and Iraq, Jeremy and his family were able to spend Christmas in Lawrence County for the first time in three years visiting with his brother, Jason Stewart, and mother and stepfather, Beverly and Dave Fisher.

Jeremy is the grandson of the late Carter and Della Holm of Lynn.

Community Building
will be asset to county

The new Lawrence County Community Building, which is the former Hutcherson building in downtown Walnut Ridge, has a great space for public meetings. I was one of several who saw the remodeled interior for the first time last Wednesday, when the Chamber of Commerce Business After Hours event was held there. The first floor of the building has been divided between the large meeting room and another large area that is expected to be the future home of the Lawrence County Library.

Our hats are off to Bob and Paula Hutcherson, who donated the building to the county, and to our elected county officials who are making good use of it. The upstairs has lots of space that will apparently provide storage for county records to help alleviate some of the overcrowding in the courthouse.

The Business After Hours was a nice event, too, with a good mix of people from the community.
