Lady Mustangs are senior champsDebbie Richey
Black Rock and Hoxie faced off for the senior girls title on Saturday.
The fifth-seeded Lady Zebras defied the odds to reach the finals, defeating hometown favorites Sloan-Hendrix in the first round and then upsetting top-seeded Walnut Ridge on Wednesday.
The second-seeded Lady Mustangs outlasted third-seeded Hillcrest in a 68-63 barnburner on Friday to reach the title game.
Black Rock took a 16-8 first-quarter lead. The Lady Zebras' tempo continued, as they held a 25-19 lead at halftime.
Hoxie took their first lead of the game, 27-26, with 4:51 left in the third quarter. The Lady Mustangs continued their surge, as they held a 39-30 lead with the fourth quarter approaching.
The Lady Zebras fought back to regain a 45-42 lead with 2:27 left. Hoxie would not be denied, as they stormed back in the final minutes to win a hard-fought battle 54-47.
Megan Black led Hoxie with 21 points, and Jessica Barber contributed 16 points. Ashley Glenn chipped in seven points, and Erica Galbreath notched five. Alyssa McConnell closed with four points, and Raven Gates recorded a free throw.
Whitney Martin led the Lady Zebras with 22 points. Jordan Fore notched eight points. Brittany Anderson and Bethany Erwin contributed four points each, and Stephanie Bagwell recorded three points.
