Former Hoxie mayor dies

Longtime public servant Paul G. Hendrix died Saturday at his home in Hoxie. Hendrix who was mayor of Hoxie from 2000 until 2006 served as the Hoxie chief of police for 14 years from 1977 until 1991. In 1992 Hendrix became the Lawrence County 911 coordinator and served in that capacity until his retirement in 1999. During his tenure the 911 addressing system was put into place.

Hendrix graduated from Hoxie High School in 1953. Following graduation he joined the United States Air Force and served for 21 years, retiring in September of 1975. Hendrix returned to Hoxie and was employed by the Lawrence County Sheriff's Office as an investigator.

The funeral is today at 2 p.m. at the United Free Will Baptist Church in Walnut Ridge. Burial will be in Lawrence Memorial Park with military honors.
