WINDS CAUSE WIDESPREAD DAMAGE ~ Alan Haskins (left), Walnut Ridge Fire Chief, discusses damage caused to power lines with other firemen and members of an Entergy crew. This power pole was damaged Tuesday afternoon during strong winds, and connecting power lines pulled a streetlight pole in front of Lawrence Hall toward Free Street, causing it to be closed for several hours. The high winds also caused downed signs and trees, power outages, road closings and property damage. The stoplight at Highway 91 and Highway 63 did not have power, and the Lawrence County Tournament was cancelled Tuesday night because of power outages at Sloan-Hendrix.

Presidential primary is Tuesday

The Arkansas Presidential Preferential Primary election is set for Tuesday. Voters will have the option of using either electronic ballot or a paper ballots in this election.

Airport votes to get in compliance, golf course remains open at present
At a called meeting of the Walnut Ridge Airport Commission, chairman Jack Allison addressed members of the commission about the ongoing issue of the Walnut Ridge Country Club's golf course being too close to one of the airport's runways.

LawCo. Library to
see change in location
The Lawrence County Library Board of Trustees voted in their regular meeting on Jan. 17 to pursue the relocation of the library in Walnut Ridge to the old Hutcherson Furniture building.

Reese to seek re-election
Farrah Matthews Reese will be seeking a fifth term as the Lawrence County Assessor. Reese was an appraiser in the Assessor's office for five years prior to being elected as the County Assessor in 2000.
