Lady Zebras claim winsDebbie Richey
Black Rock's Lady Zebras hosted Armorel on Friday evening and tamed the Lady Tigers 48-27 in 1A-3 South conference basketball action.
Black Rock took control of the game in the early going, leading 18-7 at halftime and holding a 39-18 lead after three quarters.
Jordan Fore led the Lady Zebras with 15 points. Whitney Martin had 10 points, and Ashley Stallings added nine.
Armorel won the junior high girls game 47-12.
Black Rock hosted Maynard on Jan. 15.
Martin hit a three-point shot to tie the game at the end of regulation, and the Lady Zebras went on to defeat Maynard 71-62 in overtime, despite being down to only four players.
The game was competitive throughout, with Maynard holding leads of 16-15 after one quarter, 31-27 at halftime and 42-40 after three quarters. Martin's shot tied the game at 55-55 at the end of regulation play.
Martin led Black Rock with 19 points, five rebounds, an assist and two steals. Stallings contributed 13 points, six boards, an assist and two steals. Bethany Erwin notched 11 points and seven rebounds. Brittany Anderson chipped in nine points, six rebounds, five assists and two steals. Stephanie Bagwell recorded four points, seven boards and three assists, and Fore closed with four points.
In the junior girls game, Maynard slipped by Black Rock for a 5-2 first-quarter lead and continued to lead 14-11 at halftime.
Maynard continued to own the court after halftime and led 25-16 heading into the final period. The Lady Zebras were unable to overcome the point spread, falling 35-25 to the Lady Tigers.
Teri Aden led the Zebras with 18 points, 25 boards, an assist and a steal. Megan Jones notched five points, four rebounds an assist and four steals, and Christina Gaskins closed with two points. Sarah Sloan contributed eight rebounds, two assists and a steal. Shawn Cardwell recorded five boards, and Sarah Penn had a rebound, an assist and a steal.
