The Hillcrest Screamin' Eagles hosted Walnut Ridge in 2A-2 conference basketball action on Jan. 15 at Lynn.
The rivalry between the Lady Bobcats and Lady Eagles was renewed on the court with Walnut Ridge holding a 6-3 lead at the end of the first quarter. Walnut Ridge continued to out-duel the Lady Screamin' Eagles in the second quarter, taking a 17-11 first-half lead.
Hillcrest hit the court after the break with a vengeance, turning up the defense and tying the match 33-33 at the close of the third quarter.
The final quarter was back and forth, with the game tied 39-39 with 3:53 left to play. The match was tied again at 44-44 with 1:17 left on the clock. With time outs dwindling, Walnut Ridge's Rachel Looney was sent to the charity stripe and tied the game at 45-45, with only seconds to play. Lady Cat Chelsea Treadway took the ball, laying it in for two points with 2.5 seconds left to give Walnut Ridge the win 47-45.
Vanessa Oliver led the Lady Bobcats in scoring with 12 points and had three assists. Looney recorded a double double of 11 points and 18 boards and had four assist and three blocked shots. Treadway contributed eight points and three steals, and Alivia Hackworth notched seven. Lacey Cobble had four points. Chelsey Linebaugh closed with three points, and Jordan Rorex recorded two points and had two steals.
Three Lady Eagles scored in double digits. Breanna Doyle led the Eagles with 16 points and 10 rebounds. Jessica Broadway notched 11 points, and Amber Glenn added 10 points. Whitney Jones contributed four points, and Natalie Johnson closed with three points. Tamara Evans recorded a free throw.
The senior boys game was tied 12-12 after the first quarter, before Hillcrest thrashed their way into a 33-25 lead leaving the court at halftime.
The Eagles began to pull away from the Bobcats in the second half, taking a 50-33 lead heading into the final quarter and posting a 58-44 win.
Derek Wooten led the Eagles with 25 points and 10 rebounds. Chris Blevins added 10 points and had five blocked shots. Dustin Durham contributed eight points, and Aaron Britton closed with five points. Patrick Corder chipped in four points, while Robert Jones and Tye Hines recorded three points each.
Walnut Ridge was led by Derek Medlock with 10 points, and Bennett Dudley contributed eight points. Mitchell Thompson and Robert Rider notched seven points each, and John-Scott Kelley closed with six points. Wesley Davis and Curtis Jackson recorded three points each.
Walnut Ridge eased to an 11-10 first-quarter lead and moved out to a 25-16 lead at the end of the second quarter.
Hillcrest came out in second half ready to shake things up. The Eagles seized a 34-32 third-quarter lead, as Zach Doyle drilled a three-pointer in the final seconds of the period. With the momentum on their side, the Eagles went on to claim a 48-43 win.
Tyler Parker led the Eagles with 15 points, and Dylan Wooten followed with 13. Trevor Morgan added nine points, and Doyle notched five. Zach Bilbrey chipped in four points, and Billy Brannon closed with two.
The Bobcats were led by Chris Dickison with 17 points. Clay Hufstedler contributed eight points, and Matt Wall notched seven points. Kyle Johnson added four points. Cody Brady and Teague Phillips closed with two points each.
