Junior Zebras continue stampedeDebbie RicheyStaff Writer Trent Moreledge sank two free throws in the closing seconds to cap a second-half comeback and lift the Black Rock boys to a 37-35 win over Cave City in the boys final of the Hillcrest Junior High Invitational Basketball Tournament Saturday at Lynn. The win also kept the junior Zebras perfect season intact with a record of 24-0. After being tied 7-7 at the end of the first quarter, Cave City moved out to a 21-14 lead in the second period. Black Rock began their rally in the third quarter and had cut the Cavemen's lead to 25-24 entering the final period. The Zebras tied the game at 32-32 with 1:20 to play and then took a 33-32 lead with another free throw. Black Rock's Tadd Fore hit two free throws to put the Zebras ahead 35-32 with 31.5 seconds to play. A three-pointer by Cave City knotted the game at 35-35. The Cavemen then committed a foul, sending Moreledge to the charity stripe, where he sank the game-winners. Morledge led the Zebras with nine points, three rebounds and three assists. Fore had eight points, three rebounds, two assists and a steal, and Khris Foster contributed eight points, two rebounds and an assist. Hunter Horton notched six points and four rebounds. Joe Carey closed with four points and six rebounds. Tyler Roby had two points, three rebounds, two assists and a steal, and Tyler Newell had a rebound.
Cave City claimed the championship of the girls bracket with a 45-28 win over Tuckerman.
