Lady Mustangs sweep HarrisburgDebbie Richey
Hoxie hosted Harrisburg in girls basketball on Jan. 7. The Lady Mustangs kept the home fans happy, winning three contests from the Lady Hornets.
In the senior high game, Hoxie took a 17-10 first-quarter lead and stampeded to a 35-16 lead at halftime.
Hoxie continued to dominate the Lady Hornets in the third quarter, taking a 52-29 lead. The mercy rule went into effect in the final quarter, as the Lady Mustangs overwhelmed the Lady Hornets 63-31.
Megan Black led Hoxie with 21 points. Jessica Barber and Ashley Glenn both contributed 14 points, and Erica Galbreath closed with eight points.
In the junior high game, Hoxie took a 9-8 first-quarter lead. The game remained close in the second quarter and Hoxie held a 16-13 halftime lead.
With this match up for grabs, the junior Lady Mustangs were able to maintain a 25-21 lead at the end of the third quarter. Hoxie held of the junior Lady Hornets in the final period to record a 36-25 win.
Amy Galbreath led the junior Lady Mustangs with 15 points. Autumn Nelson contributed eight points, and Katelyn Cook added seven.
The Hoxie seventh grade girls defeated Harrisburg 21-18.
Hoxie eased into a 5-3 first-quarter lead over Harrisburg. The junior Mustangs continued to hold an 8-3 lead at halftime break and led 12-9 after three quarters.
Madison Woodard led Hoxie with seven points. Kayla Ward notched five points, and Krista Coffell added three. Courtney Rice and Sarah Manis had two points each.
The Lady Mustangs hosted Hughes on Jan. 4.
In the senior high game, Hughes stepped out to a 12-8 lead in the first quarter. Hoxie began to fuse their offense and took a 21-16 halftime lead.
The Lady Mustangs continued hitting the boards in the second half and held a 44-24 lead as the third quarter came to a close. Hoxie continued to pull away from the Lady Blue Devils in the fourth quarter and posted a 59-41 win.
Black led the Lady Mustangs with 27 points. Brooke French added nine points, and Barber had eight points. Galbreath and Glenn closed with six points each.
The junior Lady Mustangs used an offensive explosion in the fourth quarter to defeat Hughes 35-21.
The game was tied 6-6 at the end of the first quarter, 10-10 at halftime and 17-17 after three quarters, before Hoxie outscored Hughes 18-4 in the final period.
Amy Galbreath led Hoxie with 23 points and Cook recorded five points.
The Hoxie senior girls defeated Brookland 59-27 on Jan. 3.
Barber led Hoxie with 16 points. Glenn and Alyssa McConnell had seven points apiece.
The Hoxie junior girls defeated Brookland 40-30.
Galbreath had 17 points, and Kelsey Lewis added nine.
Hoxie won the seventh grade girls game 22-12.
Woodard and Amanda Moskop led Hoxie with four points each. Coffell, Rice and Vanessa Cook had three points each, and Ward and Manis scored two points each.
