Junior high tourney
underway at Hillcrest

The annual Hillcrest Junior High Invitational Basketball Tournament tipped off Saturday. Seven games were played Saturday, with action continuing on Monday. The semifinal games are scheduled for Thursday, with the finals set for Saturday.

Hillcrest ~ Twin Rivers boys

Hillcrest seized a 19-6 first-quarter lead over the Panthers. Hillcrest hammered the boards in the second period, taking a 30-13 halftime lead.

The Eagles continued to soar over Twin Rivers with a 49-17 lead at the end of the third quarter. The final quarter was shortened by the mercy rule, as Hillcrest advanced with a 49-26 win.

Dylan Wooten led Hillcrest with 15 points. Trevor Morgan followed with 13 points, and Zach Bilbrey had eight. Zach Doyle added six points, and Tyler Parker notched three. Tyler Durham and Billy Brannon each recorded two points.

Sloan-Hendrix ~ Maynard girls

The Maynard and Sloan-Hendrix girls faced off next, with the Lady Greyhounds taking a 9-5 first-quarter lead. The Lady Greyhounds continued to own the court in the second quarter, leading 21-10 over Maynard at halftime.

Sloan-Hendrix continued to lead 26-18 heading into the final quarter, but Maynard unleashed a furious fourth-quarter rally to overtake the Lady Hounds and earn the win by a score of 36-32.

BR girls beat Ridgefield Christian

Whitney Martin scored 23 of Black Rock's 46 points, as the Lady Zebras defeated Ridgefield Christian 46-30 Friday evening in Jonesboro.
