Lady Cats fall to Cedar RidgeDebbie Richey
The Walnut Ridge Lady Bobcats traveled to Newark on Friday to take on Cedar Ridge in girls high school basketball.
In the senior high game, Cedar Ridge took a 13-7 first-quarter lead over the Lady Bobcats and closed the first half with a 24-11 lead.
The Lady Bobcats were unable to cut into Cedar Ridge's lead in the third period and trailed 38-21 entering the final period. Walnut Ridge stepped up their defense in the final quarter, but it was a little too late, as they fell to the Lady Timberwolves 50-43.
Rachel Looney led Walnut Ridge with 20 points and nine rebounds. Vanessa Oliver contributed eight points and three assists, and Alivia Hackworth notched eight points. Chelsea Treadway closed with seven points, and Jordan Rorex had four steals.
The Walnut Ridge junior high girls lost to Cedar Ridge 30-19.
The junior Lady Cats trailed 9-4 after one quarter, 18-6 at halftime and 24-14 after three quarters.
Ashley Baker led Walnut Ridge with seven points. Katie Lewis added six points. Ashton Lawson contributed four points, and Amanda Emison notched two.
The junior Lady Bobcats began the new year with a 47-29 loss at Maynard on Thursday.
Maynard took a 9-0 first-quarter lead and continued to lead 25-9 at halftime.
Walnut Ridge was able to cut into Maynard's lead in the third period, but still trailed 32-21 heading into the final quarter.
Emison led Walnut Ridge with seven points. Lewis had six points and eight rebounds. Daniel Vaughn had six points and six rebounds, and Lawson had four points. Anna Griffin and Baker had two points each, and Megan Osbahr had six rebounds.
