Mustangs trample Hughes

The Hoxie Mustangs hosted conference foe Hughes in boys high school basketball action on Friday.
The senior boys took to the court and set a fast pace for the match. Ray Volner had a steal and a dunk to bring the fans to their feet. Nate Ragsdell scored 12 points and Morgan Puckett added 10 in the opening quarter, as the Mustangs raced out to a commanding 35-19 lead.
Hoxie continued to control the second quarter and held a 55-34 halftime lead.
The mercy rule was enacted early in the third quarter, as Hoxie continued to extend their lead. Beau Sisco grabbed a steal and found Ragsdell for a two-handed dunk, as the Mustangs ended the third quarter with a 76-45 lead.
Several Mustangs saw action in the fourth quarter, as Hoxie recorded an 89-52 win. Hoxie improved to 11-3 overall and 8-1 in 3A-3 conference play.
Ragsdell led Hoxie with a double double of 23 points, 10 boards, seven steals and five assists. Tanner Jarrett recorded a double double, with 10 points, 10 rebounds and eight blocks. Puckett contributed 14 points and four assists, followed by Cade Crisler with 13 points and eight assists. Sisco notched nine points, five rebounds and seven assists, and Justin Weitkamp added six points.
The Hoxie junior high boys could not get in the zone, as they trailed 26-18 at halftime.
Hughes continued their attack in the third quarter, taking a 52-25 third-quarter lead and going on to defeat the junior Mustangs 58-28.
Zach Crisler led Hoxie with nine points. Michael King and Garret Hart each had six points.
