Jeremy and Angie Batterton of West Monroe, La., have announced the birth of a son on Dec. 18, 2007, at St. Francis Hospital in Monroe, La. The baby weighed six pounds, 12 ounces, and has been named Aidan Kaine Batterton.
Jeremy is a former resident of Walnut Ridge. Aidan has a brother, Avery, 10, and a sister, Abbie, five.
Grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. Jerrall Smith of West Monroe and the late Mr. and Mrs. Bob Batterton, who lived in Walnut Ridge. Misty and Shane Cook of Hoxie are a special aunt and uncle.
Great-grandparents are Bernice Williams of Walnut Ridge and Mr. and Mrs. Walter Williams of Minturn.
Delbert and Kerri Blackwell of Pocahontas have announced the birth of a daughter on Dec. 28, 2007, at NEA Baptist Memorial Hospital in Jonesboro. The baby weighed seven pounds, six ounces, and has been named Olivia Jene Blackwell.
She has two older sisters, Madison, four, and Taylor, three.
Grandparents are Albert and Betty Blackwell of Pocahontas and Brenda Cates and Danny Cates, both of Walnut Ridge. Lillie Owens of Piggott is great-grandmother.
Helen Norene Byrd, 88, of Pocahontas, mother of James Byrd of Imboden, died Jan. 6, 2008, in Pocahontas. Burial was Tuesday in New Hope Cemetery under the direction of Hoggard and Sons Funeral Home of Piggott.
Retha Elliott, 87, of Cave City, sister of Eletta Medlock of Walnut Ridge, died Dec. 30, 2007, at Cave City Nursing Home. Burial was Jan. 3 in Parsley Cemetery, east of Cave City, under the direction of Roller-Crouch-McGee Funeral Home of Cave City. Darlene Howell Golden, 64, of Hoxie, died Jan. 6, 2008, at St. Bernards in Jonesboro.
Born Dec. 23, 1943, in Jefferson City, Mo., she was a machine operator for Skil and was of the Baptist faith.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Grant and Mirl Howell.
Survivors include her husband, Howard Golden, whom she married Sept. 29, 1988; two daughters, Leelonna Sprinkle, Berryville, and Meshayla Payne, Green Forest; a son, Brent Golden, Monroe, La.; a sister, Ola James, Walnut Ridge; and two grandchildren, Tristan Howell Payne and Griffin Andrew Payne. She is also survived by many loving nephews, cousins and in-laws.
Funeral will be Friday at 2 p.m. in Bryan Chapel with Bro. David Kline officiating. Burial will be in Whittaker Cemetery under the direction of Bryan Funeral Home.
Pallbearers will be Alex Latham, Randy Puckett, Logan James-Puckett, Morgan James-Puckett, James Hobbs and Jerry Elkins. Honorary pallbearers will be Scott James, Grant James and Blake James.
Visitation is Thursday evening from 6 to 8.
Glyndon Bruce Graham, 68, of Rockford, Ill., formerly of Lawrence County, died Jan. 7, 2008, in Rockford.
Arrangements will be announced by House-Gregg Funeral Home.
Dale Haggard, 52, of Groves, Texas, formerly of Walnut Ridge, died Dec. 15, 2007.
Born March 29, 1955, in Rockford, Ill., he was a veteran of the U.S. Navy and attended Gateway College in St. Louis. He served as music minister at several churches throughout his lifetime. At the time of his death, he was an administrative assistant at Abundant Life Sanctuary in Groves.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Cherie J. Crocker; and a brother-in-law, Dennis Collins.
Survivors include his wife, Miriam Faye Brown Haggard; three sons, Nathaniel and wife Jana, Ethan and wife Nicholle, and Jacob; a daughter, Elizabeth and husband Kamran; his parents, Rev. Kelsie and Sister June Haggard, Walnut Ridge; a brother, Gary and wife Betty; a sister, Rita Collins; and three grandchildren, Gabriel, Michal and Eden.
A memorial service was held Dec. 17 at Abundant Life Sanctuary.
Willie L. Hubbard, 77, of McDougal, father of Steve Hubbard of Strawberry, died Jan. 3, 2008, in Batesville. Burial was Saturday in Piggott Cemetery under the direction of Hoggard and Sons Funeral Home of Piggott.
Ruby Liscomb, 73, of Walnut Ridge, died Jan. 6, 2008, at Lawrence Memorial Hospital.
Born Aug. 30, 1934, in the Lauratown community, she worked at Frolic Footwear in Walnut Ridge for 10 years and was a member of the First Missionary Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Liscomb, whom she married Dec. 5, 1955, in Walnut Ridge; a son, Gary Allen Liscomb; her parents, Rube and Ollie Sanders Davis; and two brothers.
Survivors include a son, Charles Liscomb, Walnut Ridge; a daughter, Melody Rogers, Walnut Ridge; a daughter-in-law, Mary Liscomb, Walnut Ridge; a sister, Marilyn Acers, Lebanon, Ohio; six grandchildren, Gary Wayne Liscomb, Blake Liscomb, Blaine Liscomb, Brianna Liscomb, Colton Rogers and Spencer Decker; and a great-grandson.
Funeral will be Friday at 1 p.m. in Higginbotham Chapel. Burial will be in Lawrence Memorial Park under the direction of Higginbotham Funeral Service.
Visitation is Thursday evening from 5 to 8 at the funeral home.
Ethel Nadene Moore, 59, of Swifton, formerly of Osceola, died Jan. 1, 2008, at her home.
Born in Tuckerman, she was of the Pentecostal faith.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth Moore; and her parents, Jim Bob Lindley and Rosie Dildine.
Survivors include a daughter, Deana Broughman, Keiser; two sons, Kenneth Moore, Swifton, and Heath Moore, Knoxville, Tenn.; five sisters, Doris Whitaker, Alicia, Lillian Midgett, Walnut Ridge, Barbara Midgett, Williford, Kathy Gray, Pocahontas, and Joyce Lindley, Paragould; two brothers, Steven Lindley, Lake City, and Jerry Lindley, Keiser; and two grandchildren.
Funeral was Friday at 1:30 p.m. at Wilson Funeral Home in Osceola. Burial was in Sandy Ridge at Burdette.
Mira W. "Virgie" Moss, 80, of Cave City, died Jan. 4, 2008.
Born in Strawberry, she was the daughter of John William and Daisy Isabelle Wilson Whitmire. She was the office manager of a manufacturing company in Allegan, Mich., and a homemaker.
Survivors include two daughters, Rosemary Moss Collins and husband F. Thomas, Janesville, Wis., and Mira Ann Moss Trowbridge and husband Albert, Hendersonville, N.C.; a son, Terry L. Moss and wife Deborah, Cave City; two brothers, Henry V. "Dutch" Whitmire, Strawberry, and Chester Whitmire, Marion, Ind.; eight grandchildren, Winona J. Collins McCall, Lisa A. Moss Runyan, Deborah J. Moss Asberry, Mary Beth Collins Grice, Andrea L. Collins Smith, Marcia N. Moss Lawrence, Scott W.L. Brown and Keith Adams; and 19 great-grandchildren.
Funeral was Tuesday at 1 p.m. at the Cave City Church of Christ with Dean Fugett officiating. Burial was in Ward Cemetery at Strawberry under the direction of Bryan Funeral Home.
Grandchildren and great-grandchildren served as pallbearers.
