Hoxie girls make NEA semis

The Hoxie Lady Mustangs competed in the girls 3A bracket of the NEA Invitational Tournament last week at Jonesboro. After beating Marmaduke in the first round, the Lady Mustangs were defeated in the semifinals by the East Poinsett County Lady Warriors 64-46 on Thursday.

The Hoxie girls could not get on track, trailing 29-17 at halftime, as the Lady Warriors defense proved too strong.

Hoxie could not overcome EPC, as the Lady Mustangs' shots failed to find their mark.

Megan Black led Hoxie with 16 points. Erica Galbreath and Tanya Sisco each had 11 points.

First round

The Lady Mustangs faced Marmaduke's Lady Greyhounds in a first-round contest on Dec. 22.

Marmaduke slipped by Hoxie for an 11-8 first-quarter lead. The Lady Mustangs made up the difference in the second quarter, tying the game 22-22 at halftime.

Hoxie began to pull away in the second half, taking a 39-32 third-quarter lead and going on to win by a score of 60-49.

Three Lady Mustangs scored in double digits, led by Ashley Glenn with 19 points. Sisco and Jessica Barber each added 12 points.
