Hoxie sweeps WR in girls basketball

Hoxie hosted Walnut Ridge in girls high school basketball on Dec. 17.
Hoxie's Megan Black and Ashley Glenn scored 22 points apiece to lead the Lady Mustangs to a 66-63 win over the Lady Bobcats.
Walnut Ridge jumped out to an early 16-9 first-quarter lead over the Lady Mustangs. The Lady Bobcats continued hitting the boards in the second period and took a 32-16 lead to the dressing room at halftime.
Hoxie came out strong after the break, outscoring Walnut Ridge 30-11 in the third quarter to take a 46-41 lead. They held off the Lady Cats in the final period to claim the win.
In addition to Black and Glenn, Tanya Sisco added 14 points for the Lady Mustangs, and Jessica Barber and Raven Gates closed with four points each.
Four Lady Bobcats scored in double digits, led by Rachel Looney with 21 points and 11 rebounds. Vanessa Oliver had 17 points and four assists, and Alivia Hackworth had 13 points. Chelsea Treadway notched 10 points and Jordan Rorex scored two.
In the junior girls game, Walnut Ridge eased into an 8-7 first-quarter lead. Hoxie slipped past Walnut Ridge at the close of the first half for a 25-23 lead.
After the halftime break, Hoxie continued to hold a 32-29 lead heading into the final quarter. The junior lady Mustangs continued to hammer the boards in the final period to seal the win by a score of 50-34.
Amy Galbreath led Hoxie with 27 points, and Kelsey Lewis added 17. Neely Ragsdale had five points, and Katelyn Cook added two.
Ashley Baker led Walnut Ridge with nine points, and Amanda Emison added eight. Ashley Roacho had seven points, and Katie Lewis added five. Daniel Vaughn and Ashton Lawson had two points each, and Megan Osbahr added a free throw.
