Harold and Becky Mahaffey of Walnut Ridge have announced the birth of a son on Dec. 9, 2007, at NEA Baptist Memorial Hospital in Jonesboro. The baby weighed three pounds, 10 ounces, and has been named Hamilton Blaine Lee Mahaffey.
He has four older brothers, Jerrell Burns, 19, of Springfield, Mo., and Christian Colsey, 13, Robbie Thomas, 11, and Joshua Mahaffey, 17 months.
Grandparents are Herschel Brown Sr. of Walnut Ridge and the late Violet Brown and Harold and Louise Mahaffey of Shelbyville, Mo.
The family expresses their appreciation for all the prayers that have been said and all future prayers.
Marvin Carroll Burns, 66, of Walnut Ridge, died Dec. 20, 2007, at St. Bernards in Jonesboro.
Born April 5, 1941, at Oak Hill, he was a U.S. Army veteran and a retired painter. He was a member of Pleasant Grove Missionary Baptist Church at Annieville.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Boyce and Daisy Warner Burns; a sister, Daphine Vermilye; and a brother, Willis "Tiger" Burns.
Survivors include his wife, Lana Johnson Burns, whom he married Dec. 8, 1963; two sons, Blake Burns, Jonesboro, and Eric Burns, Hot Springs; a brother, Bob Burns, Walnut Ridge; and two grandchildren, Garrett Burns and Bailey Burns.
Funeral was Sunday at 2 p.m. at Pleasant Grove Missionary Baptist Church with Bro. Jerry Clements officiating. Burial was in Pleasant Grove Cemetery under the direction of Bryan Funeral Home.
Pallbearers were Steve Wade, Chris Matthews, Clint Berry, Coy Slusser, Reggie Allen and Martin Allen.
Memorials may be made to Pleasant Grove Missionary Baptist Church.
Marie Frakes, 93, of Big Island Milan, Ill., died Dec. 20, 2007, at River Park Healthcare Center in Rock Island, Ill.
Born June 8, 1914, in Saffell, she was the daughter of Simon and Mae Godwin Daggett. She had worked as a cook and was retired from the former Moline Public Hospital.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Henry Frakes, on July 12, 1976, whom she married in May 1928; a daughter, Murial Bevans; two brothers, Cordie Daggett and Nolan Daggett; and a grandson, William Bevans.
Survivors include two sons, Jerry Frakes and wife Cheryl, Milan, and O'Neal Frakes, Bradford; a sister, Nadine Mize, Coal Valley, Ill.; 11 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and 23 great-great-grandchildren.
Graveside service is Thursday at 11 a.m. at Godwin Cemetery in Saffell under the direction of Bryan Funeral Home.
Memorials may be made to the Perpetual Care Fund at Godwin Cemetery.
Etheredge B. House, 89, of Jonesboro, formerly of Alicia, died Dec. 20, 2007, at his home.
He was preceded in death by his parents, M.G. "Bud" and Dollie Wade House; five brothers, Ora E., Roy, Luther, Mart and Fred Ray; and a sister, Juanita.
Survivors include his wife, Ruby Butler House; three daughters, Lynda Eaves, Hoxie, Patty Cornwell, Lake City, and Tammy Curtis, Jonesboro; two sons, Robbie House and Stanley House, both of Jonesboro; a brother, Wayne House, Little Rock; and 12 grandchildren.
Funeral was Sunday at 1:30 p.m. in the House-Gregg Chapel with Dale Hughart and Don House officiating. Burial was in Haynes Cemetery, near Swifton, under the direction of House-Gregg Funeral Home.
Pallbearers were Jeremy House, Buddy Eaves, Charlie Curtis, Jimmy Cornwell, Jim House and Ed House. Honorary pallbearers were Glen House, Jack House and J.W. House.
Robert Dean Rorex, 70, of Elizabeth, formerly of Egypt, died Dec. 21, 2007, at Baxter Community Hospital in Mountain Home.
Born July 23, 1937, at Egypt, he was the son of Earl and Mayme Felts Rorex. He was employed in the grocery business in Lancaster, Calif. He was a U.S. Army veteran and was a member of the Crossroads Church of Christ in Mountain Home.
Survivors include a daughter, Robin Rorex, Portland, Ore.; and two brothers, Jack Rorex, Mountain Home, and Cecil Rorex, San Antonio.
Funeral is Thursday at 2 p.m. in Higginbotham Chapel with Frank Plachy officiating. Burial will be in Markham Cemetery, near Egypt, under the direction of Higginbotham Funeral Service.
Visitation is tonight from 5 to 8 at the funeral home.
Geraldine E. Stuck, 82, of Starkville, Miss., mother of Herbert L. Stuck of Ravenden, died Dec. 18, 2007, at Oktibbeha County Hospital in Starkville. There will be no funeral services. Welch Funeral Home of Starkville had charge of arrangements.
