Hoxie boys win three

The Hoxie senior high boys defeated Hughes 73-56 in high school basketball action Saturday at Hughes.

The game was tied 11-11 after one quarter. Despite foul trouble, the Mustangs were able to move out to a 32-25 lead at halftime.

Ray Volner scored 12 of his 22 points in the second quarter and had 12 boards for the game. Cade Crisler contributed 20 points, including four three-pointers and five steals. Morgan Puckett totaled seven points, and Tyler Thompson contributed seven points and seven boards.

Beau Sisco dished out eight assists and pulled down five rebounds. Justin Weitkamp added six points, and Nate Ragsdell recorded five points, seven rebounds and four steals.

Hoxie improved to 8-1 overall and 6-0 in 3A-3 conference play.

Hughes defeated Hoxie 46-21 in junior boys action. The game was close until Hughes pulled away in the final quarter to remain undefeated.

Brad Harp led Hoxie with six points. Zach Crisler added five points, and Devin Roberts had four.

Marmaduke

Hoxie defeated the Marmaduke Greyhounds 67-61 Friday night at Hoxie.

The Greyhounds took a 21-14 lead in the first quarter and continued to hold a 34-26 lead at halftime.

Marmaduke extended their lead to 11 points in the third quarter before the Mustangs began chipping away. After baskets by Sisco and Jarrett cut the lead to four points, Sisco came up with a steal and hit Ragsdell for a two-handed slam that brought the crowd to its feet. After a Greyhound basket, Crisler made his way through Marmaduke's press and hit Jarrett for a short jumper to bring the Mustangs to within two. Sisco then drove the baseline and dished to Volner for a short jumper that tied the game at 43-43 at the end of the third quarter.

Hoxie continued to hammer away at the Greyhound defense to take a 51-50 lead early in the final period. The Mustangs led 64-57 with 1:12 to play and held off the Greyhounds to claim the hard-fought win.

Crisler led the Mustangs with 19 points. Jarrett added 12 points, and Ragsdell contributed 10. Ray Volner notched eight points, with Morgan Puckett, Justin Weitkamp and Beau Sisco each scoring six points. Sisco dished out eight assists.

Hoxie won the junior high boys game 42-35.

Hoxie took an 11-7 first-quarter lead. The Hounds retaliated in the second quarter and closed the gap to 21-20 at halftime.

Hoxie continued to dominate the court in the second half, leading 33-28 with the final quarter approaching.

Roberts recorded a double-double with 11 points and 15 rebounds. Harp hit three three-pointers for nine points, and Zach Crisler contributed seven points. Brody VanWinkle followed with six points, and Michael King and Sebastian Irvin added four points each, and had seven rebounds apiece.

Harrisburg

Hoxie traveled to Harrisburg on Dec.10 and defeated the Hornets 76-48.

The senior Mustangs led 15-8 after one quarter and 42-23 at halftime. Hoxie proved to be too much for the Hornets, as the Mustangs carried a 70-35 lead into the final period.

Volner led Hoxie with 16 points and six rebounds. Ragsdell added 14 points. Thompson scored 15 points, and Puckett added 12.

Harrisburg won the junior high boys game 43-30.

The junior Hornets led 10-5 at the end of the first quarter and 25-17 at the half.

Hoxie was unable to hold off the Hornets and trailed 34-27 heading into the final quarter.

Harp led the junior Mustangs with 13 points. Zach Crisler had seven points, while Irvin and King each added five points.
