Lady Mustangs beat Hughes

Three Hoxie players scored in double figures, as the Lady Mustangs edged past Hughes 59-53 in girls high school basketball on Saturday at Hughes.

The game was close throughout, as Hoxie held a 33-31 halftime lead and clung to a 44-43 lead after three quarters.

Jessica Barber led the Lady Mustangs with 18 points and 12 boards. Brooke French followed with 17 points, including five three-pointers. Megan Black added 11 points and had eight rebounds. Ashley Glenn and Erica Galbreath had six points each, and Tanya Sisco closed with a free throw.

In the junior girls game, Hoxie took a 6-2 first-quarter lead and continued to lead 14-9 at the close of the first half.

Hoxie held on to the 24-18 lead as the third quarter came to a close and downed Hughes 34-26.

Amy Galbreath led the junior Lady Mustangs with 13 points. Neely Ragsdale contributed five points, and Katelyn Cook added four. Karina Mashburn notched three points. Leslee Parrish closed with two points, and Kelsey Lewis had a free throw.


The Lady Mustangs suffered a 62-49 setback to Corning on Dec. 10 at Corning.

Barber led Hoxie with 20 points and Black added 18.

The Hoxie junior girls fell to Corning 32-31.


Hoxie defeated the Manila Lady Lions 69-52 on Dec. 6 at Hoxie.

Barber notched 21 points and eight rebounds. French added 14 points, and Black chipped in with 12 points and eight boards. Galbreath and Glenn each had nine points, and Raven Gates had two points.

In junior girls action, Hoxie defeated Manila 38-9.

Galbreath led the junior Lady Mustangs with 13 points. Cook followed with six points. Mashburn and Lewis added five points each. Ragsdale tossed in four points. Parrish and Cayley Rosson closed with two points each, and Autumn Nelson recorded a free throw.

The Hoxie seventh grade girls recorded a 26-19 win.

Madison Woodard led Hoxie with seven points, and Sarah Manis added six points. Krista Coffell and Vanessa Cook both contributed four points, and Amanda Moskop had two points.
