LawCo. continues support
of deployed military personnel

John Bland

Even though the war efforts in Iraq continue month after month, Lawrence County has continued its support and concern for our National Guard and Army personnel who are serving our country there. I think the support given by groups and individuals in our county is vital and should be applauded. Many of us have been affected by family members or friends who have or will be deployed to Iraq. 1st Lt. Jeremy Tillman, who has many connections to Lawrence County, was injured in Baghdad at the beginning of this month. Colonel Robert Gardner, a native of Hoxie and a local dentist, will be leaving the end of this week to perform another rotation with the Guard in Iraq. Also, our local Arkansas National Guard unit is preparing now for deployment in 2008.

The Angel Tree in the courthouse still had many angels remaining as of Monday. Although the deadline to get an angel has passed, the project is still in need of monetary donations. The Kiwanis Club is matching monetary donations to the Shepherd Care clothing ministry up to $1,000 this month. These are just two of many ways that area residents can help spread the Christmas spirit this season.

After spending two-nights and part of three days at the U.S. Space Camp in Huntsville, Ala., we would highly recommend it. I never desired to be an astronaut, but the experience is enough to make most anyone become fascinated with the space program.

The camp is operated in a very professional manner as you might expect. There are all types of camps and group programs held throughout the year at the U.S. Space Camp.

It was truly an honor for the staff and families of The Times Dispatch to be named Business of the Year by the Chamber of Commerce at the recent annual meeting. We consider it a great honor to serve the Lawrence County area, and we take our job seriously. We are grateful for the support of our readers and advertisers, and will strive to serve you even better in the future.
