Lady Mustangs beat
Manila, sweep Piggott
The Hoxie Lady Mustangs defeated Manila 69-52 in girls high school basketball on Thursday at Hoxie.
Hoxie led 39-23 at halftime and 56-41 after three quarters.
Jessica Barber led Hoxie with 21 points and eight rebounds. Brooke French added 14 points, and Megan Black had 12.
The Lady Mustangs swept three games from Piggott on Dec. 3 at Hoxie.
In the senior high game, Hoxie gained an 18-8 first-quarter lead over Piggott. The Lady Mustangs continued to play tough defense in the second quarter and led 35-20 at halftime.
Piggott was unable to tame the Lady Mustangs, as Hoxie led 51-33 heading into the final quarter of play and went on to record a 68-49 win.
Black led with 18 points. Ashley Glenn added 15 points. Barber had 15 points and 11 rebounds. Tanya Sisco contributed 10 points, and Erica Galbreath tossed in six. French notched three points, and Raven Gates added a free throw.
In junior high action, Hoxie stampeded to a 20-1 first-quarter lead and held a commanding 34-6 lead at the half.
Hoxie continued to hammer the boards and led 40-9 over Piggott at the end of the third quarter. With the mercy rule in effect, Hoxie earned a 44-13 win.
Amy Galbreath led the junior Lady Mustangs with 21 points. Kelsey Lewis contributed 10 points, and Katelyn Cook tossed in five. Leslee Parrish, Neely Ragsdale and Autumn Nelson closed with two points each.
In the seventh grade girls contest, the game was tied 3-3 at the close of the first quarter. Hoxie slipped past Piggott for a 6-5 lead as the first half came to a close.
The Lady Mustangs held a one-point lead, 12-11, heading into the final quarter on their way to a 19-13 win.
Amanda Moskop led Hoxie with nine points. Kayla Ward added three points, and Krista Coffell closed with two.
