Zebras split games
with Cedar Ridge
The Black Rock Zebras traveled to Newark on Dec. 4 to take on the Cedar Ridge Timberwolves in high school basketball action.
Cedar Ridge jumped out to a 24-10 first-quarter lead in the senior boys contest. Black Rock was unable to halt the Timberwolves and trailed 46-19 at halftime.
Cedar Ridge continued to drop baskets in the second half and led 66-33 after three quarters. With the mercy rule in effect, Cedar Ridge defeated the Zebras 74-46.
Ben Walker led the Zebras with 15 points and two steals. Chris Richardson followed with 13 points, a rebound and an assist. Les Foster contributed eight points, a rebound and two assists. Jay Nunally tossed in four points and had six boards and an assist.
Garrett Maronde closed with two points, five rebounds and two assists. Adam Whitmire had two points and four rebounds. Jonathan Rice recorded two points, four rebounds and an assist, and Cager Ridge had two rebounds.
In junior boys action, the Timberwolves took a 12-7 first-quarter lead over the junior Zebras. Black Rock went on a roll in the second period and took an 18-14 lead into halftime.
Black Rock continued to hammer the boards and continued to hold a 30-26 lead heading into the final quarter. The junior Zebras extended their lead in the final period and recorded a 42-33 win.
Joe Paul Carey led Black Rock with 18 points, a rebound, an assist and a steal. Hunter Horton tossed in six points and had nine boards. Tyler Roby added five points, five rebounds, two steals and an assist. Tadd Fore had five points, two rebounds, five assists and a steal. Tyler Newell closed with five points and four rebounds, and Trent Morledge closed with three points, five rebounds, four assists and a steal.
