Cats sweep Twin RiversDebbie Richey
The Walnut Ridge Bobcats traveled to Ravenden Springs to take on the Twin Rivers Panthers in high school basketball on Friday night.
In senior boys action, Walnut Ridge held a 12-10 lead after one quarter. The Bobcats broke the game open with 28 points in the second quarter to take a 40-21 halftime lead.
The Bobcats maintained their momentum in the second half, leading 59-31 heading into the final period and won by a score of 73-58.
Logan Gaither led the Bobcats with 17 points. Tommy Lawrence recorded a double-double with 16 points and 13 rebounds. Bennett Dudley netted 14 points, including four three-pointers. Wesley Davis contributed 11 points, and Derek Medlock added eight. Mitchell Thompson notched three points, while William Wilcoxson and Tyler Meadors added two points each.
Walnut Ridge took a 38-24 victory over Twin Rivers in junior high boys action.
Clay Hufstedler led the junior Bobcats with 10 points. Chris Dickson followed with nine points, and Kyle Johnson added eight. Cody Brady netted six points. Tyler Dickson and Sean Seagraves each had two points, and Jett Waddell added a free throw.
The senior Bobcats traveled to Tuckerman on Dec. 4.
The Bulldogs defeated Walnut Ridge 65-52 to give Tuckerman head coach Morgan Gilbert the 1,000th win of his coaching career.
Lawrence led Walnut Ridge with 12 points and nine rebounds. Dudley added nine points and seven rebounds, and Gaither followed with eight points. Medlock notched seven points, and Frank Todd and Wesley Davis tossed in six points each. Mitchell Thompson and Brandon Dawson closed with two points each.
