Zebras split games with Hillcrest
Hillcrest basketball teams were guests of Black Rock Friday night for the Zebras homecoming.
Black Rock took a 17-13 first-quarter lead over Hillcrest and continued to hold a 28-23 halftime lead.
Hillcrest bounced back in the second half and eased into a 43-40 lead as the third quarter ended. The battle continued in the fourth quarter, with Hillcrest earning a 55-50 victory over the Zebras.
Derek Wooten led the Eagles with 15 points. Ricardo Rodriquez, Jacob Clifton, Aaron Britton and Dustin Durham had eight points each. Chris Blevins notched four points, while Patrick Corder and Robert Jones recorded two points each.
Les Foster led the Zebras with 14 points, three rebounds, two assists and a steal. Ben Walker followed with 11 points, three rebounds, two assists and a steal. Adam Whitmire notched nine points and three boards. Chris Richardson chipped in with seven points, five rebounds and three assists. Jay Nunally added six points, two rebounds, an assist and a steal. Jonathan Rice closed with two points, five boards, five assists and four steals, and Cager Ridge had a free throw and two rebounds.
In the junior high boys game, Black Rock held a 6-2 first-quarter lead. Black Rock continued to hammer the boards and increased their lead 26-14 at halftime.
The junior Zebras proved too powerful for the Eagles, as Black Rock took a 41-18 lead heading into the last quarter and earned the win by a score of 49-33.
Black Rock was lead by Joe Paul Carey with 19 points, two rebounds and a steal. Trent Morledge followed with 11 points, two rebounds, three assists and three steals. Hunter Horton added eight points, five rebounds and a steal. Tadd Fore notched four points, two rebounds, four assists and a steal.
Khris Foster totaled three points, three boards, an assist and a steal. Tyler Roby contributed three rebounds, two assists and a steal. Tyler Newell recorded two points, two rebounds, an assist and a steal. Cody Clairday added two points and three rebounds, and Matthew Stewart had a rebound, an assist and a steal.
Billy Brannon led Hillcrest with 11 points, and Dylan Wooten contributed eight points. Tyler Parker, Zach Bilbrey, Cray Howard and Austin Harris each had two points.
