Justices appropriate
funds for Rails to Trails
Amber Adams
Staff Writer
The Quorum Court appropriated $39,457.34 to the Rails to Trails Project during its regular meeting Monday night.
The money, which came from a state grant, will be used to pay the architect, Stuck Associates, and Precision Grading, for the paving. Justice of the Peace Junior Briner said the architect's work has been completed, but the paving probably will not begin until spring.
In other business:
- justices discussed the community building. Judge Alex Latham is planning to meet with Hoxie Mayor Donnie Roberts to discuss how Hoxie rents its community building, before making any decisions.
- Latham informed the court that he has appointed a court emergency plan committee so the county can apply for a Court Emergency and Preparedness Grant. A total of $3,333.33 is available to each county that has a committee in place. Committee members are Lawrence County Sheriff Dan Ellison, Latham, Justice Jim Jones, Judge Harold Erwin and Steve Jones.
- the court passed an ordinance levying real and personal taxes for 2007, collectable in 2008. It was noted that no changes have been made since last year.
- it was announced that bids will be opened for the new courtroom today at 2 p.m.
