I can't believe that another year has almost come and gone. It just seems like a couple of months ago that I was getting ready for Christmas 2007, and now here we are again.
We put up our Christmas tree last week. Like a lot of people, I like to have mine up as soon as possible after Thanksgiving. My recent trip to Branson really got me in the holiday spirit, and I was ready to trim the tree as soon as we returned.
We have a kitten at our house now, named Lou Lou. This year will be her first Christmas, and I can already tell it's going to be an adventure. As we were putting the tree together, she was a little curious, but mostly scared. She ran outside and hid the first chance she got, but couldn't stay away long.
As we added lights and ornaments, she became very curious. She chased the light string, batted at the ornaments and tried to eat the garland. After two good spankings, I thought she had learned that this large, shiny new thing in the dining room was off limits to her.
Around 2 a.m. last Tuesday morning, I heard tinkling sounds. I lay in bed, too cold to get up, just waiting for the sound of shattering glass or ceramic. I heard a small thump, then the skittering of tiny toenails on the hardwood floor.
When I got up for work, I decided to check out the damages. A small snowman was sitting upright in the floor, just below the tree. I guess Lou Lou had knocked it off and when it hit the ground, she ran. There were no chips in his ceramic and hardly any glitter in the floor.
We'll see how the next few weeks go.
