New website is asset for countyGretchen Hunt
As a first-year board member of the Lawrence County Chamber of Commerce I learned quickly that there is plenty to be done if you are willing to take on a project and run with it.
I was named chair of the marketing committee and as such was asked to oversee the updating of the Chamber's website. Last Tuesday night, the new site was unveiled during the Chamber's annual banquet.
We as a board wanted to create a site that offers more information for current and prospective residents and businesses, as well as visitors, and that gives our members some additional exposure.
Two additions to the new website are an online membership directory, which will provide a link to any business websites that are provided, and an At a Glance feature that rotates and provides information about individual businesses.
Another new feature is an upcoming events calendar that will be updated by Kathy Bradley, the Chamber's administrative assistant. Local organizations are encouraged to contact Kathy at 886-3232 with information for the calendar.
I was glad to be able to work on this project with Angie Skimahorn, one of my co-workers and the online editor at The Times Dispatch. She designed the new site and worked with me on the content.
There will be additional updates and more information will be added over the upcoming months, but the information currently provided will be beneficial to any visitor to the website.
Lawrence County United lent their support to the project by providing funding. In addition, other Chamber board members helped by testing the new site, brainstorming ideas for content and helping to gather information.
I encourage everyone to check out the new site at www.lawcochamber.org. In the end, I hope that the new site will meet the goals that we as a board set.
