Hillcrest boys fall to Cave City
The Hillcrest Screamin' Eagles hosted Cave City for homecoming on Friday night at Lynn.
In the senior high game, Hillcrest grabbed a 15-9 lead at the close of the first quarter. The Eagles led 28-19 over the Cavemen at halftime.
Hillcrest continued to dominate this physical match in the third period, leading 44-34 with the fourth quarter approaching.
Cave City stepped up the pace and tied the game 44-44 with 5:45 left to play. The Cavemen continued to hammer the boards and held on for a 59-58 win, as a final Hillcrest shot failed.
Jordan Hunter led Hillcrest with 26 points. Derek Wooten added 13 points, and Chris Blevins notched 12. Dustin Durham totaled five points, and Aaron Britton closed with two points.
In the junior boys game, Cave City took an early 18-8 lead over the Jr. Screamin' Eagles and continued to hold a 24-13 halftime lead.
Hillcrest was unable to tame the Cavemen, as they trailed 33-22 after three quarters. It was a whole new game in the final quarter, as the junior Eagles stepped up and tied the game at 36-36 with 6.9 seconds left on the clock, sending the game into overtime.
Cave City pulled away during the overtime period to take the win 44-39.
Hillcrest was led by Dylan Wooten with 22 points. Trevor Morgan added nine points, and Zach Doyle had eight.
