BR, S-H girls fall
in opening round

The 48th annual Williams Baptist College High School Basketball Tournament got underway Saturday afternoon with three games in the girls bracket.
BR ~ Viola girls
The Black Rock Lady Zebras took on Viola's Lady Longhorns in the tournaments first game.
Viola took a 12-7 first-quarter lead, but Black Rock retaliated in the second quarter and held a 22-17 lead at halftime.
The Zebras continued to hold their ground with a 31-30 lead over the Lady Longhorns, but Viola fought back and claimed a 40-38 win.
Black Rock was led by Whitney Martin with 11 points. Jordan Fore followed with nine points, and Jessica Rudd added six. Ashley Stallings contributed five points, and Stephanie Bagwell added three. Bethany Erwin and Brittney Anderson closed with two points each.
S-H ~ Corning girls
Sloan Hendrix's Lady Greyhounds took to the court to face the Corning Lady Bobcats in first round action.
Sloan-Hendrix took a 12-9 lead at the close of the first quarter, but Corning stepped up the pace and took a 28-22 halftime lead.
Sloan Hendrix was unable to rally, as the Lady Bobcats continued to lead 41-30 after three quarters and claimed the win by a score of 53-40.
Amanda Green led the Lady Hounds with 12 points and five rebounds. Kristen Belcher had seven points and four rebounds. Megan Break had six points, three rebounds and two steals. Katelyn Morris notched four points three rebounds, three assists and a steal.
Christie Caldwell contributed three points, two rebounds and an assist. Hannah Rowsey had two points and an assist, and Kara Morris all had two points, a rebound and a steal. Latricia Mans had two points, and Amy Green had a rebound.
Maynard ~ Tuckerman
The Tuckerman Lady Bulldogs defeated Maynard 43-37 in a first-round game on Saturday. Tuckerman advances to play Hillcrest Thursday at 7:10 p.m.
