Mustangs' season ends
in third round of tourney
The Hoxie Mustangs 2007 football season came to an end with a 35-0 loss to the Glen Rose Beavers Friday night at Malvern in the third round of the 3A state playoffs.
Glen Rose scored its first touchdown with four minutes left to play in the first quarter to take a 7-0 lead. The Beavers scored again early in the second quarter for a 14-0 lead and added their third touchdown with 2:59 to play in the second period for a 21-0 halftime lead.
The third quarter was scoreless until, the last 35 seconds, when Glen Rose scored again to make the score 28-0. The Beavers scored their final touchdown with 8:35 to play in the game.
Tyler Thompson led Hoxie in rushing with 72 yards on 15 carries. Houston Waldrupe recorded 67 yards on 13 carries, and Alex Ward had 57 yards on 12 carries. Brad Cook notched 15 yards on five carries, and Cade Crisler had one carry for three yards.
"On behalf of myself, the coaching staff and the football team, we would like to thank everyone for their tremendous support throughout the season," said Hoxie head coach Tom Sears.
"The number of people who traveled to Glen Rose was fantastic. According to a Glen Rose patron, our fans traveled better than anyone they had hosted this season. We are extremely excited and are looking forward to the 2008 season," added Sears.
