Hoxie School receives
Emergency Response Grant
Hoxie School has received an Emergency Response Grant in the amount of $124,111, which it plans to utilize by implementing a parent notification system.
The system can be used to notify first responders, government agencies and departments, state officials, media and most parents. It will communicate messages during emergency situations and can be accessed through the Internet (text message is converted to voice), phone or multi-functional device. The system also includes a list management tool that will include phone numbers, as well as cell phone numbers, fax number, e-mail addresses and any other contact information, of all the parents in the district.
The communications plan the school is working on will call for an update of parent contact information throughout the school year to ensure its success.
"One of the most significant components of this system is the ability for real-time communication," said Supt. Dennis Truxler. "This system will help us become more prepared as a school district in the case of an emergency."
The system, which also includes a homework hotline for parents, should be up and running sometime in December, according to Truxler.
