WR girls sweep Twin RiversDebbie Richey
Walnut Ridge's Lady Bobcats swept the Twin Rivers Lady Panthers in junior and senior high girls basketball action on Thursday at Walnut Ridge.
In the senior high contest, the teams played a close first quarter, with the Lady Cats taking a 14-12 lead. The Lady Bobcats increased their lead to 36-21 at the close of the first half.
Twin Rivers tried to disrupt the Lady Cats, but failed, as Walnut Ridge led 47-33 at the end of the third quarter. Despite the Lady Panthers attempts, the Lady Bobcats picked up the win 57-42.
Rachel Looney led the Cats with 25 points and 15 boards. Vanessa Oliver followed with 11 points and six assists. Chelsea Treadway and Alivia Hackworth closed with eight points each. Jordan Rorex totaled three points, and Chelsey Linebaugh had two points.
In the junior high game, Walnut Ridge took an early 15-8 first-quarter lead and continued to hold a 23-16 lead as the halftime buzzer sounded.
Twin Rivers was unable to detour the Lady Cats, as they trailed 39-22 with the final quarter approaching. Walnut Ridge aced this 52-28 win over the Lady Panthers.
Ashley Baker led the junior Lady Bobcats with 19 points. Katie Lewis added nine points, and Amanda Emison had eight. Ashley Roacho and Ashton Lawson contributed six points each, while Daniel Vaughn and Megan Osbahr notched two points each.
The Lady Bobcats opened the basketball season by hosting Trumann in a benefit game on Nov. 3.
In senior girls action, Walnut Ridge strolled to a 21-6 lead after the first quarter. Truman was not able to tame the Cats and trailed 39-16 at the break.
Walnut Ridge continued to hammer the boards and led 50-29 after the third quarter and went on to record their first victory of the season by a score of 58-32.
Looney led the Lady Cats with 20 points and 17 rebounds. Oliver added 13 points and had five assists. Hackworth had 11 points, and Rorex notched five. Treadway recorded four points. Amber Caldwell had three points, and Cobble added two.
In the junior high game, the Lady Bobcats took an early 15-8 lead and increased their lead to 30-16 at halftime.
Trumann was unable to slow the Lady Cats, as Walnut Ridge led 41-21 heading into the final quarter. The junior Lady Bobcats put their first win of the season in the books by a score of 56-31.
Baker led the cats with 15 points. Osbahr added 12 points, and Lewis notched 11. Emison totaled nine points, and Vaughn had four. Lawson closed with three points, and Misty Wood scored two points.
