Lady Eagles beat Midland

Hillcrest's Terra Polston scored 11 quick points to propel the Lady Screamin' Eagles past Midland 68-49 in senior girls basketball Friday at Strawberry.

Hillcrest grabbed a 17-13 lead over the Lady Mustangs closing the first quarter. Midland gained momentum in the second quarter and took a 31-28 halftime lead over the Lady Eagles.

Both teams battled in the third quarter, with Midland taking a 46-43 lead entering the final period.

With the game tied at 46-46 in the fourth quarter, Polston sank three consecutive three-pointers, followed by a two-pointer, to send the Lady Eagles on their way to the win.

Jessica Broadway and Amber Glenn led the Eagles with 15 points each, and Breanna Doyle contributed 12 points. Terra Polston finished with 11 points, and Whitney Jones notched nine. Natalie Johnson totaled four points, and Shelby Huskey closed with two.


The Hillcrest girls defeated Weiner 64-46 on Nov. 6 at Lynn.

The Lady Cardinals slipped by Hillcrest in the first quarter to take an early 18-16 lead. Hillcrest stepped up their pace in the second quarter, taking a 32-29 halftime lead.

The Cardinals made an attempt to overpower the Lady Screamin' Eagles in the third period, but it failed, as Hillcrest moved out to a 48-40 lead and continued to pull away in the final quarter.

Doyle led the Lady Eagles with 20 points, seven rebounds, an assist, three steals and two blocks. Broadway followed with 19 points, 10 boards, three assists and three steals. Jones totaled seven points, with two rebounds, an assist and a steal. Glenn recorded six points, four rebounds, an assist and a steal.

Johnson notched five points, eight rebounds, a steal and a block. Tamara Evans had four points, two assists, a steal and a block. Polston closed with three points, two assists and two steals, and Kalie Durham topped out with an assist, a steal and a block.

Hillcrest won the junior girls game 41-22.
