Zebras split games with
Mammoth, Brookland

The Black Rock Zebras made their way to Mammoth Spring to take on the Bears in high school basketball action on Oct. 30.

In senior high action, the Zebras fell to the Bears 71-44.

Mammoth Spring took a 22-8 first-quarter lead and continued to hold a 40-23 halftime lead over the Zebras.

Black Rock was unable to detour the Bears, as they trailed 57-34 entering the final quarter.

Black Rock was led by Les Foster with 16 points, and Chris Richardson with 13.

In the junior high contest, Black Rock took an early 9-2 lead over the junior Bears and increased their lead to 16-5 at halftime.

Mammoth Spring rallied in the third period, closing Black Rock's lead to 20-16 with the final quarter approaching. The junior Zebras held their ground and took home a 32-26 road victory over the junior Bears.

Tadd Fore led the junior Zebras with 12 points, four rebounds, two assists and three steals. Joe Paul Carey contributed 11 points, five rebounds and an assist. Tyler Roby notched eight points and a rebound, and Hunter Horton recorded seven points, nine boards, an assist and a steal. Tyler Newell had four points, and Khris Foster had a free throw, an assist and two steals.


Black Rock traveled to Brookland on Oct. 26 for boys basketball action.

In the senior high game Brookland took a 15-11 first-quarter lead over Black Rock and held a 31-17 halftime lead over the Zebras.

Black Rock was unable to tame the Bearcats in the second half and trailed 52-28 heading into the final quarter. Brookland put this home game away 66-35.

Richardson led Black Rock with 14 points and six rebounds. Foster contributed 12 points, four boards, an assist and a steal. Ben Walker had four points, three rebounds, three assists and a steal, and Adam Whitmire added four points.

Cager Ridge closed with a free throw, two rebounds and two assists. Jay Nunally had a rebound, and Chase Hussung recorded an assist. Jonathan Rice added a rebound and an assist, and Clay Lester had an assist and two steals.

In junior high action, Brookland took a 16-8 first-quarter lead over the Jr. Zebras. Black Rock rallied in the second quarter and trailed by only two points at halftime, 25-23.

The junior Zebras hit the court in full force after halftime and grabbed a 37-35 lead over the Bearcats at the close of the third quarter. Black Rock held on in the final quarter, sealing the win, 45-44 over Brookland.

Carey led the Zebras with 24 points, seven rebounds and two steals. Fore added 10 points, two boards, four assists and four steals. Newell added six points, three rebounds, an assist and a steal. Horton contributed four points, four rebounds and an assist, and Morledge closed with a free throw, a rebound and three assists.
