Black Rock hosted Sloan-Hendrix for an evening of high school basketball action on Oct. 29.

Senior boys

The Greyhounds took a 14-10 lead to close the first quarter. The Zebras gained momentum in the second period and took a 29-20 lead at halftime.

Black Rock continued to increase their lead to 44-29 as the final quarter approached and took the win by a score of 55-41 over the Greyhounds.

Les Foster led Black Rock with 15 points and six rebounds. Ben Walker added 14 points. Chris Richardson contributed 13 points, and Jay Nunally closed with 10 points.

Senior girls

The senior girls game lit the gym on fire. Sloan-Hendrix slipped into a 8-5 first-quarter lead, but the Lady Zebras stepped up and took a 16-14 halftime lead over the Lady Greyhounds.

The battle continued in the second half, as the Lady Hounds took a 22-19 lead heading into the final quarter of play.

The final quarter was full of anticipation. With the game tied 33-33 with 1:50 left on the clock, neither team could score and overtime seemed imminent. Sloan-Hendrix' Kara Morris was fouled while attempting a last-second shot and sent to the free-throw line. With no time on the clock and everyone holding their breath, Morris made both free throws, giving Sloan-Hendrix the 35-33 hard-fought victory.

For the Lady Hounds, Amanda Green had 12 points, 10 boards and an assist. Hannah Rowsey contributed eight points, two rebounds and two assists. Kristen Belcher tossed in six points, and had four rebounds. Christie Caldwell notched three points, three rebounds, four assists and two steals. Megan Break closed with two points and two rebounds. Morris added two points, and had a rebound, and Laticia Mans added two points.

Black Rock was led by Stephanie Bagwell with 16 points. Jordan Fore, Whitney Martin and Brittany Anderson each had five points. Ashley Stallings had three points. Jessica Rudd notched two points, and Bethany Erwin closed with a free throw.

Junior girls

In junior girls action, The Lady Hounds took an 11-2 lead over the Jr. Lady Zebras to close the first quarter. Sloan-Hendrix held Black Rock to three points in the second quarter, as they increased their lead to 21-5 at halftime.

The junior Lady Hounds continued to dominate in the second half, taking a 31-10 lead into the final quarter. Sloan-Hendrix held Black Rock scoreless in the final quarter, as the Lady Hounds took a 43-10 victory.

Haley Slusser led Sloan-Hendrix with 12 points, a rebound, an assist and two steals. Kayla Griffin added 10 points, four boards, five assists and a steal. Gennifer Simpson contributed six points and a steal. Demi Stephens tossed in four points and had two rebounds.

Maegan Austin notched three points, a rebound, an assist and three steals. Madicyn Huddleston added three points and a steal. Morgan Smith closed with two points, a rebound and three assists. Sara Childress had two points, three rebounds and two steals. Emily Ogden tossed in a free throw, pulled down five boards and had two assists, and Shayla Dickson had a rebound.
